QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS
2008 Presidents Report June saw a new initiative from the club, which was the staging of an unofficial dressage competition at Gatton showgrounds, held in conjunction with the Australian Warmblood Horse Association (Qld) committee at their annual show, and open to our members. This gave our members the opportunity to compete at a different venue, and against a slightly higher standard of competition than might be encountered at a members-only day, without having to join the EFA to attend an official competition. This event was well supported by our members, and the committee intends to repeat this formula if possible. In July the club again staged our annual two day official Championships, the Brenda Wittmann Classic, at Gatton showgrounds. From all reports this was another great weekend, well supported by the serious official competitors in our sport, and it proved profitable for the club. The small band of volunteers who ran the weekend were left quite exhausted, and a new organisation model will be trialled in 2009, with a sub-committee to be formed to organise the weekend. All club members are strongly urged to participate in the staging of this weekend. It is a good service we provide to the greater sport in Queensland, it brings high level dressage to the region, and funds raised will secure the future of the club. Hopefully in the not too distant future, the club will be able to enter a partnership or alliance with a landholder, such as a show society or shire council, which will enable us to secure a permanent club ground, upon which we can construct some permanent sand-surfaced arenas. Imagine how labour-saving it would be to be able to hold competitions without having to set up and pack away the arenas, as we presently must. To this end I urge the club to eneavour to continue adding to our healthy bank balance. The State Department of Sport and Recreation usually matches club contribution on a dollar-for-dollar basis for building of sporting club facilities such as arenas. Since winter we filled out the year by holding two further members-only days at Laidley in August and October, and an official day in September. All attracted good entries, although the official day at Laidley was not well supported by competitors from outside the club, and this is due in part to the spreading reputation of the hard ground at Laidley. As there had been rain the day before, the ground was actually soft and rode beautifully, however there was a lot of rubbish and debris to be collected up from the B & S Ball held there the previous weekend, and the committee is investigating other grounds that we may be able to use to avoid this issue. I would like to thank all club members who have come to the monthly meetings, and personally taken on jobs to help run our various events. In particular thanks to Mars who has kept a good tight rein on the cheque book (may the account balance keep growing!), to Ngaire who produced the newsletter and helped organise many days, and to Susie who put her hand up for anything and everything that needed doing this year - we wouldn't have run without you. I have really enjoyed my two years as President of this friendly club. Please support our new committee for 2009. I am sure they will bring fresh enthusiasm and ideas to our growing club.
